It’s rare that I actually want ‘things’ for Christmas. Yet this year, the ‘things’ which are on here are very functional. Several are experiences too. For 2020, I want to prioritise health, wellness and a sense of focus. As a mum to two gorgeous yet feral boys, my life has been rather chaotic and I’m hoping to spend next year making sure I’m also getting what I want from my career, which is why a lot of the items on my 2019 Christmas wish list are relevant to my work.
Rock Salt Lamp, from £15 from various websites
Call me strange, but I’ve always wanted one of these. Just how I always wanted a lava lamp! Are rock salt lamps the new laval lamp?! I’m in need of a bedside lamp which doesn’t burn out my retina when I switch it on at night so I’m hoping this will give off a more friendly glow. Plus, I really like the look of them; I like my crystals (I’ve got a whole stash in my pants drawer!) and natural objects. There’s also a whole host of benefits purportedly associated with having a rock salt lamp in your house, including decreasing anxiety and stress, helping you sleep etc etc. From what I’ve read however, none of these claims are substantiated.
Vivobarefoot Shoes
I bought my first pair of Vivobarefoot shoes about 2 years ago. I wasn’t even sure I wanted to buy them, but I broke the toggle when I pulled them on so then felt compelled to buy them… Probably not the best start. The ones I currently have look orthopaedic, and are fugly as anything. However, they are the most comfortable pair of shoes I have ever owned. I’d love another pair which are a little less obvious (i.e. dark in colour – my current ones are a strange sandy colour). I really like the Kanna shoes, but they’re never in stock! So the Primus Lite, £110, the Primus Knit, £130, and the Primus Trail FG, £120, are on my Christmas wish list.
Crumpler Rucksack
My husband bought me a Crumpler Rucksack a few years ago for me to carry my laptop around and I love it. It’s super comfortable and I can fit so much in. However, the strap broke a few months ago and it’s unfixable. I’m lost without it! I’m currently carrying my laptop around in a Fjällräven rucksack which is fine but my back and shoulders really notice the difference. I swear by Crumpler bags for anyone who’s walking with a laptop and associated paraphernalia for more than 30 minutes each day. My ideal Crumpler rucksack from their current range would be the Backload Backpack (£159.90) or the Algorithm large (£159.90).
Osprey Transporter 40, £100
I have an Osprey backpack which I use for running. It’s the most comfortable rucksack I have and when I’m not looking, my husband will try and steal it. I’m currently using it to carry a few weights and fitness equipment in, to take to clients’ homes or for my group sessions. This is working for now but I’m worried that the load I’m carrying is too heavy so I’d love to find a more durable bag to carry my PT equipment in. It’s also important that it’s comfortable as I’m often cycling with it too. This looks perfect as it’s large and durable.
Business Coaching with Erica Wolfe Murray
I first came across Erica at the Barreworks Summit and then again at the UK Business of Fitness 1 Day workshop. She is a top business coach for creative businesses and provided invaluable advice during the short times I met her. She really left an impact. She offers personal business coaching, with varying packages. If you’re someone who’s not too sure where to go next, or how you can grow your business, I’m 100% sure that Erica can help.
You’ll have to contact her directly via her website. If you are looking for a more self-driven route to business success, she has also written a book, Simple Tips, Smart Ideas, £14.99, which is a step by step guide to building a bigger, better business.
You Need a Vicky, prices dependant on requirements
A PT client of mine recommended You Need a Vicky after she’d booked in the service when trying to sort out papers in her attic. And it sounds exactly what I need! I find it really hard to declutter. And my ‘stuff’ spreads all over the place, much to the dismay of my husband. I’ve had offers from family and friends to help me out clear out my things but having tried it before, the emotional connection gets in the way. I need someone I don’t know. Someone like ‘Vicky’. ‘Vicky’ is a personal organiser company with several services, from general declutter (yes please!), to wardrobe organising and paperwork. Even if you’re not too sure what you need, they can help you determine that.
Kettleboobs, from £16
Kettleboobs are the ONLY kettlebells you need in your life. Coming in sleek minimalist designs, not only can you get a pair of boobs on your kettlebell, but a fanni, cacti or even motivational messages. The weights range from 2kg to 16kg.
Perifit Pelvic Floor Trainer, £107
There are lots of different pelvic floor trainers on the market at the moment which is fantastic, but how to decide which one is the best for you? I was gifted an Elvie but my husband ‘lent’ it to my sister in law before I had a chance to use it. I didn’t want it back… I was determined to use the Perifit I was gifted before anyone else! The Perifit gamifies activating your pelvic floor to make it a more enjoyable experience but better yet, it helps you determine if you’re activating them properly. Because your pelvic floor muscles aren’t on show, I feel they’re often neglected, but possibly one of the most important muscles to train. This might be an unusual one to have on your 2019 Christmas wish list, but it will do wonders for your pelvic floor.
