New Scientist Live 2023 is shaping up to be a blockbuster event for science buffs, tech enthusiasts, and anyone with a natural curiosity about how the world works. Scheduled for October 7-8, with a dedicated Schools Day on October 9, this year’s event will transform London’s ExCeL centre into a buzzing hive of intellectual stimulation and discovery.
The Stages
This year’s event boasts four dedicated stages—Universe, Mind & Body, Our Planet, and Future. If you’ve ever pondered the mysteries of the cosmos, the intricacies of the human mind, or the urgent challenges facing our planet, there’s something here for you.
A Lineup That Inspires
The roster of speakers is as diverse as it is impressive. Take, for instance, Dr. Chris van Tulleken, a well-known TV doctor and presenter. He’ll be joined by Alice Roberts, an anatomist, biological anthropologist, author, and broadcaster. If you’re a fan of wildlife photography and reality TV, you’ll be happy to know that BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing winner Hamza Yassin will also be there. And the list goes on—from neurologists and psychologists to physicists and oceanographers, the speakers are experts at the forefront of their respective fields.

Hands-On Learning
What sets New Scientist Live apart from your regular science symposium is its array of interactive exhibits so if you’re more of a hands-on person, there’s plenty for you too. You can enter a pop-up Planetarium, take a journey into a heart, meet SPOT the robotic dog and even enjoy a thrilling rollercoaster ride – without even moving. Another eye-catcher is the new food expiry label “Bump,” which instantly tells you whether your food is still fresh. You can also get up close and personal with microscopes to explore the intricacies of skin and clothes or try your hand at flintknapping—the world’s oldest craft.
For the Future Scientists
Don’t forget the dedicated Schools Day on October 9, which is ideal for Key Stage 2, 3, and 4 students. Talks and workshops on this day will aim to showcase the wide array of opportunities that STEM fields offer, ensuring the next generation of scientists gets the inspiration they need. Young scientist-favourite, Maddie Moate will also be with her Science Storytime. And Pokemon enthusiasts can find out more about ‘Pokemaths’ with mathematician Tom Crawford.
Can’t Make It In Person?
Good news, New Scientist Live is also going digital. So even if you can’t make it to London, you can still be a part of the excitement online with its dedicated live stream ticket option.
