Aspiring chef and lover of high-end healthy food, Susie (aka Gourmet Glow), explains just why Bronte’s Cafe in Cobham is worth the trip out of London to visit.
It’s a rare occasion that you walk through a doorway and think ‘yep I feel like I’m home’ but I’ve definitely found my home from home, a little haven away from the hubbub of life. Bronte’s Cafe is a friendly haven that transports you to the sanctity of the ocean whilst serving up delicious, local, organic produce.
Inspired by Bronte beach in Sydney, Australia, there’s a definite nautical feel to the cafe; as well as their carefully chosen colour palette, there’s an ambience that’s as relaxed and chilled as though you were lazing in the sun with the waves lapping at the feet. Even the staff are warm and friendly and I’m jealous of their aprons – think denim and tan leather – industrial yet trendy!
As an aspiring chef, I love seeing the food being prepared and there’s a mouth-watering colour-packed display of nutritious salads and sandwiches. And as someone for whom flavour is really important, it’s great that I can build my own salad from their range of vegetables, grains and proteins, all adorned with yummy spices and flavours.
If you’re looking for a sweet treat, they have those too, and there’s also dairy-free and gluten-free options, including honey, lavender and almond cake, autumnal spiced apple and cinnamon cake and my favourite, their brownie.
Bronte’s, as a supporter of local suppliers, make a delicious creamy latte using beans from Beanberry Coffee Company, the only organic roaster in Britain and which just happens to be 5 miles away. Milk is organic, of course. If coffee’s not your thing then opt for their smokey Gunpowder or Russian Caravan tea which packs a mellow punch. Personally, I’m addicted to their range of fresh, cold-pressed Juiceman Juices and shots; little bursts of nutrient super bombs that taste divine and wake up your immune system!
Final Thoughts
For me, Bronte’s Cafe stands out for its dedication to promoting healthy, yet fulfilling eating, in a homely yet sophisticated environment. Everything is fresh, organic and local where possible and most importantly, reliably delicious.
