When you’re chasing outdoor adventure, comfort is really key, you don’t want to find yourself with sore feet miles from home or have to cut your day short due to discomfort. Here at HLL we’re huge fans of KEEN for shoes that feel comfortable whatever the day throws at us, and the latest addition to the family, the Terradora Flex collection, is no exception.
First Impressions
I won’t lie, these aren’t the best looking shoes, but they are the best shoes for getting outside and having adventures! I was impressed by how comfortable and light they were, but in terms of fit they were a bit too narrow around the toes and a bit too wide at the heel for my flipper-like feet.
The Nitty Gritty
Men and women are different, but women’s hiking boots are often built for men, just smaller. Not Terradora Flex. This is a hiker designed specifically for women’s biodynamics. Women tend to have slightly narrower feet than men (apparently I’m the exception!), so KEEN have designed the Terradora Flex to be slimmer and to support every part of the foot from the ankle, to the heel, to the arch. There’s added stability through the shank and a presser-relieving Achilles notch to keep your feet comfy though every adventure.
While we love that these shoes are truly designed for women, the real secret weapon on the Terradora Flex is that it uses KEEN.BELLOWS FLEX technology. Sounds nerdy, but this is what will keep you going all day long. The addition of this accordion-like technology to the flex point on the forefront of the hikers means you’ll be able to move with less effort, and less effort means easier days and more trail miles. This is what made the Terradora Flex really stood out for me, they were SO comfortable on all terrain, whether I was wading through mud, dealing with rocky paths or pounding the pavements my feet were so comfortable. My experience is backed up by KEEN’s testing – when it was tested against similar boots, KEEN.BELLOWS FLEX hikers required on average 60% less energy to bend, increasing efficiency and comfort step by step. Who could say no to that?!
As well as boasting seriously impressive tech, the Terradora Flex can withstand even the toughest trails. The outsole features aggressive multi-directional lugs and a slightly stiffer outsole offering exceptional protection, while a performance mesh upper complete with KEEN.DRY waterproofing will keep your fit dry whatever the weather. If you find yourself navigating a stream or a torrential downpour you’re not going to need to worry about wet feet (even if the rest of you is soaked through) – I know, part of my testing involved some serious puddle jumping!
Of course, as people who love the outdoors we also want to protect the outdoors and it’s awesome to know that KEEN is on the same page. The Terradora Flex has been consciously created with PFC-free water repellency with zero toxins and features pesticide-free insoles as well as upper, as well as being built without the use of harmful glues or solvents.
The Bottom Line
A great hiker for all your adventures.
