Working in London means if I don’t prep my food I can end up spending a small fortune. I try to make overnight oats, however, it is all too easy when working full time and training most evenings to not get this done. So I’m always on the lookout for fast and healthy breakfast options and AYEM breakfast pots looked promising.
I was sent some of the breakfast pots from AYEM to review and given the above I was keen to try them and see if they could be something that could work for me to use in my food plan. They turned up in a really cute eco-friendly cool bag. Inside there was an ice pack to keep the pots chilled.
I was intrigued as to where the name came from and it is their take on making the morning different for those who eat these pots in the am. Breakfast pots is what they do so the morning time is their focus, and this is a clever twist on the time in line with their product.
The packaging for the pots contains the usual ingredients list but also text to explain who the company are, what the pots are for and as you open it a note relating to recycling for the packaging. One of the notes I particularly liked as follows:
Dear busy people,
I am Manuela, I had the idea of AYEM, the breakfast bowl made with protein and omega 3 DHA that you’re holding now. Why? Because I believe being healthy helps to make us happy. Not run-like-the-wind, jump-like-a-ninja healthy. Just looking-after-ourselves healthy for living well, ageing well and enjoying life. So what’s AYEM? It’s a little nutritional TLC for brighter mornings and happier days.
I was worried that the almond blend would taste very sweet but it wasn’t at all and I was a little sceptical when I saw the consistency but here is what I thought of each flavour:
- Smooth almond blend – tasted really good, a little like custard in some ways and almost like a healthy treat instead of a normal breakfast.
- Pear, apple and almond – this one tasted ok but was far more set and had an almost jelly texture to it. I am not good with the consistency of some foods like smoothies and milkshakes and so whilst I liked this one it was probably my least favourite but not because of flavour and more because of the consistency.
- Blueberry and almond – I am a sucker for anything blueberry and so added some fresh blueberries to this one just, well, because. Like the pear one this was more of a set consistency.
My favourite was definitely the smooth almond blend and could see myself having that as my breakfast option for sure! I probably wouldn’t opt for the other two flavours but purely because of the consistency. If you are assuming this would be similar to a yoghurt it is not. I did like that it is very easy to add anything to it and on the AYEM website they even have a lot of recipe ideas you can use.
I train at least 4-5 times per week and these pots are high in protein which helps build a repair muscle tissues, omega 3 which can promote brain health and rich in vitamin D which is needed to absorb calcium and help with bone growth.
Another interesting fact about AYEM is that they work with One Degree by sponsoring 12 students. One Degree is a charity that ‘mentors and empowers students from disadvantaged backgrounds by developing their self-belief and transforming their academic performance’.
